Introduction to Refrigeration Equipment

Industrial water chiller, also known as chiller unit, freezer, refrigeration unit, ice water unit, cooling equipment, etc., is widely used across various industries, with different requirements for chiller units. Its working principle involves a multi-functional machine that removes liquid vapor through compression or absorption refrigeration cycles. In the refrigeration industry, it is divided into air-cooled chiller units and water-cooled chiller units. Based on the compressor type, it includes screw-type chiller units, scroll-type chiller units, and centrifugal chiller units. In terms of temperature control, there are low-temperature industrial chillers and normal-temperature chillers. Normal-temperature units generally control temperatures between 0°C and 35°C, while low-temperature units control temperatures ranging from 0°C to -100°C. The two main categories are air-cooled chillers and water-cooled chillers.

Oil cooler (also called oil cooling unit) operates on the following refrigeration principle: low-temperature, low-pressure liquid refrigerant undergoes heat exchange with the surrounding oil in the evaporator, absorbing heat from the oil and evaporating into a low-temperature, low-pressure gas. During evaporation, the refrigerant temperature remains constant. The low-temperature, low-pressure gaseous refrigerant enters the compressor, where it is compressed into a high-temperature, high-pressure gas. It then enters the condenser, where it exchanges heat with the indoor medium—part of the heat from the high-temperature, high-pressure gas is absorbed by the medium, raising its temperature, while the refrigerant releases heat and becomes a high-temperature, high-pressure liquid. The condensation process maintains a constant temperature. The refrigerant then enters the expansion valve for throttling, which rapidly reduces its temperature, turning it into a low-temperature, low-pressure liquid. This liquid then returns to the evaporator to exchange heat and evaporate, completing the refrigeration cycle. This continuous process ensures uninterrupted cooling of the oil.

Oil coolers are classified by cooling method into: water-cooled oil coolers, shell-and-tube oil coolers, condenser oil coolers, air-cooled oil coolers, and finned-tube oil coolers. By structural type, they are divided into closed-type oil coolers and open-type oil coolers. By evaporator structure, they are divided into closed-loop oil coolers and open-loop oil coolers. By compressor type, they are divided into piston-type oil coolers, scroll-type oil coolers, screw-type oil coolers, and centrifugal oil coolers.

Air coolers are divided into industrial refrigeration air coolers and household air coolers. Industrial air coolers are typically used in cold storage and cold chain logistics refrigeration environments. Household air coolers, also known as water-cooled air conditioners, are evaporative cooling units that integrate cooling, ventilation, dust prevention, odor removal, and humidification.

Air coolers are classified by impeller compressor type into: radial-flow air coolers (centrifugal compressors) and axial-flow air coolers. By application, they are divided into commercial air coolers, industrial air coolers, household air coolers, and portable air coolers. By motor speed control, they are divided into single-speed, dual-speed, three-speed, transformer-based infinitely variable-speed, and frequency-conversion infinitely variable-speed air coolers. By air outlet type, they are divided into top-discharge, bottom-discharge, and side-discharge air coolers. By air volume, they range from 3000 m³/h to 50,000 m³/h. By housing material, they are divided into plastic-housing and metal-housing air coolers. By control method, they are divided into manual-switch controlled and electronically controlled air coolers.

Freezer refers to mechanical equipment that uses a compressor to alter the pressure of refrigerant gas to achieve low-temperature refrigeration. Due to its operating conditions and the compressed medium, it differs from ordinary air compressors. Based on structural and operational principles, it is similar to air compressors and can be divided into piston-type, screw-type, centrifugal-type, and others. The freezer is one of the most important components of compression refrigeration systems. A freezer is composed of five main parts connected in series: compressor, condenser, evaporator, filter-drier, and expansion throttle valve. An appropriate amount of refrigerant is charged, and an electrical controller operates the compressor based on environmental requirements to achieve cooling and heat transfer. Freezers are available in water-cooled and air-cooled types. By circulation method, they are divided into single-stage refrigeration cycle freezers and two-stage refrigeration cycle freezers.
